Kitchen Backsplash Trends
Modern Subway
Subway tiles have remained king of backsplash tiles for quite sometime. Because of their long reign at the top, some may consider them to look a little old fashioned. However, the king does have some new clothes and there are some very modern ways to use subway tiles. One option is to go with a larger tile size. Most often when thinking of subway tiles people picture the smaller 3”x6” size. There are many more choices available that will give an updated look such as 3”x12”, 4”x16” or even 8”x24”. Another way to give a more modern feel is to break from the traditional look of the brick set pattern. Running bond, straight set or even a herring bone pattern are all options for subway tiles and will add more visual interest than the standard brick set look.
Multi-Tone Glazes
Another way that you can spruce up a standard tile shape is with a more interesting glaze. There are many tiles available for backsplashes that have interesting glaze effects. Tiles that have a multitude of different shades of the same color will add a depth and richness to your design. It can make a design look less flat or monotone while sticking to your overall color pallet. Glazes with different tones or effects will also give a more handmade and cozy feel to a room.
Unusual Tile Shapes
The world of tile is vast and there are many more shapes to be explored than just the simple rectangle or square. An unusual shape can really make your kitchen backsplash stand out. When combined with a fun pop of color you can really personalize your design and bring your kitchen to life. Some of the more common shaped tile options for backsplashes are scallops, hexagons or arabesques.
Full Height Solid Surface
If style, grander, and ease of cleaning is what you want from your backsplash, then a full height solid surface backsplash is the option you want to go with. The seamlessness of using the same material as your countertops on a full height backsplash really gives an impact to your design. Having no grout lines is also a great bonus especially for hard to clean areas like behind the sink or range.
